On Tuesday January 30th, 2018 Lean In members and friends gathered at Deloitte offices in Toronto for an evening with Day Merrill – President of career management firm 2BDetermined inc. For individuals who wanted career advice, this was THE event. Day Merill was a force of inspiration as she led the group of attendees through a workshop and Q&A on strategic career management. If you attended the event but forgot your pen and paper or missed it and want to be in the know, here are some main take-away pieces from the evening to consider as you embark on strategizing for your career.

As you start to strategize your next steps, think about these key career management questions:

1. Who am I at this stage of my life/career?
2. What could I do next?
3. What am I the right person for what’s next?
4. Where are my skills experiences/needed?
5. How do I get there?

Next, ask yourself – Why am I qualified to do that?

1. What is my “value proposition” to the marketplace?
2. How do my competencies meet organizational needs?

Follow these steps as you flow through the Strategic Career Management Model:

1. Assess
2. Target
3. Strategize
4. Execute
5. Repeat as needed!

See you at the next event!
