Dress with Finesse - Lean in Canada

How to take your professional and personal wardrobe from zero to sixty

Ever look at your wardrobe and think to yourself “I need a change and I’m bored of wearing the same things day in and day out”, or more simply “I need help”? There are pieces that you have had since the dawn of womankind, others that you bought on a whim, and other items that are true staples in your life but you are unsure if you can wear them in a professional setting. Then there is the delicate art of mixing and matching everything that you own that would leave even Harold Houdini himself scratching his head in confusion.

But you know who can help, Toronto based style consultants LA CLOSETTE. The company is run by four amazing powerhouse women who all bring a different personal touch to their approach. They have had coverage on Elle, etalk, Toronto Sun, RogersTV, CTV, The Star, Zoomer TV, and more. I had a chance to sit down over Italian with one of their co-owners Irene Kim, who exudes a sense of fashion know how and immediately sells her services visually through her own creative sense of style.

Irene has a unique background in that prior to her styling services for LA CLOSETTE, she was a Lawyer in a downtown firm. This naturally supports her instinctive knowing of how to support women by advising them on how to make their wardrobes work in a personal and professional environment.

She explains that they approach each client with extreme care and empathy as everyone has their own unique personality and tastes. They get to know each individual with an initial intake form, usually followed by a recommended in person consultation in a clients closet. The goal is to get your wardrobe to be functional, versatile and one that you love and there are several options, such as suggesting how to mix and match their current wardrobe, getting rid of pieces (which the company donates or consigns), understanding how clothes should fit, and optionally doing personal shopping for additional pieces.

By the end of this process (tailored for each person), their clients walk away feeling empowered, having additional insights into what to wear depending on the setting, and more comfortable in their closets and clothes.

“Be your true authentic self, listen to what you want, and find a way to make it happen.” – Irene Kim, Co-owner – LA CLOSETTE

They also do fashion business consulting services such as presentations on how to dress for dinners, the right way your clothes should fit, what constitutes business casual vs. professional attire, etc. In addition, they will be supporting an upcoming event called “Women Driven” that celebrates influential women in the automotive industry.

We at Lean In understand that there is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to dressing in a professional environment. Getting some additional insights and help (especially for the modern busy professional woman) in modifying and enhancing your current wardrobe can help boost your sense of confidence, help you thrive in the workplace, and add some pep to your step.

The ladies at LA CLOSETTE are cool without even trying to be, and that is the epitome of cool. They get to know you and your goals through a collaborative approach, and always at a premium level of service and with a personal touch.

This cooperative approach reminds us of key words spoken by Lean In’s Sheryl Sandberg “The more women help one another, the more we help ourselves. Acting like a coalition truly does provide results.”
