Event Roundup: How to Build a Strong Personal Brand

“Who are you?”

That is the first question that the Vancouver Chapter of Lean in Canada was challenged to answer. It may have been hump day, but it did not stop a group of women from doing some in-depth self-discovery.

At our first event after the summer hiatus, the group welcomed the remarkable Professor Ann Stone to guide us on building a strong personal brand. After senior leadership roles at The Coca-Cola Company, Church’s Chicken, Dairy Queen and Papa Murphy’s Pizza, she joined the UB C Sauder School of Business’ Marketing and Behavioural Science Division to share her passion for personal branding with students – students like us!

Professor Stone led a step-by-step interactive workshop to help attendees write and share positioning statements, encouraging everyone to get to know each other over a glass of wine and delicious appetizers. Within a minute of her presentation, the room was captivated by her charisma. She prompted us to think about three key themes drawn from Peter Drucker’s article, Managing Oneself: Strengths, Purposes, and Values. Drawing examples from her own personal life, Professor Stone reminded us that a lot of people are too focused on doing, not on being. She left us with a powerful message: take a second to be.

If you missed out on our September branding event, don’t worry – our next event is just a few weeks away, so anticipate a Save-the-Date email very soon!
