Thank you to everyone who attended our September Networking Event, Negotiate with Confidence. This topic seemed to truly resonate with a lot of you and we’re thrilled to announce it was another sold out event.
Fotini Iconomopoulos, Negotiation Consultant and CEO of Forward Focusing, taught us to rule negotiations with an iron fist, inside of a velvet glove. We have to anchor ourselves in our offers and learn to understand the dance of negotiation – get your dancing shoes on!
It’s important to think of the other party while negotiating. Believe it or not, it’s not just about us. With research and preparation, it’s important to understand what the other person’s objectives are, what pressures they’re facing, their symbols of success and how they measure success – just to name a few examples. Fotini equipped Lean In Canada members with the tools to negotiate with confidence and helped us debunk the myths that we as women have around negotiating.
She taught us research is imperative to the foundation of any good negotiation and that preparation is essential in delivering our pitch and in how we position ourselves when we’re having this conversation.
We’d like to thank TD Canada Trust for their presence at the event, Ally Ho of Evolylla Photography for the wonderful photographs and The Spoke Club for the amazing venue space and for accommodating another successful event. We’d also like to give a big shout out to The Marriot Hotels for generously providing the raffle prize for the night. One lucky Lean In Canada member won accommodations for two at The Marriot Hotel.
Our next networking event is scheduled for October 25th. October is small business month and to celebrate, Lean In Canada will be hosting an Entrepreneurship networking event with a panel of successful female entrepreneurs who will share their personal and professional experiences with us.
